My work, as a whole, explores memory and my own personal narrative, while following an autobiographic schedule. I utilize hyperbole and theatrical scenes, wardrobe, posing and such to emphasize the melodrama of the situation at hand. Focusing through a lens fixated on the past, I hope to depict the initial heightened sensations of physical and mental experience. “Fight or flight”, for instance, adrenaline and racing thoughts divided into individual segments within the mind. Memories remain vivid and dripping in sensory details and are only exaggerated as they are lost through time as we grip to something we are slowly losing. This exaggeration of the senses and feelings at the time of an event are what interest me most, as these are what we are left with as the story itself is lost to time.
The irony of flat latex paint against a more realistic handling of he human body and natural world emphasize the abrupt feelings of initial human expression, as well as indicating blank spots within the human memory. The figures themselves are set up in such a way as though they are waiting on the next scene in a play, or captured in a moment of time with the world moving around them. Through these tactics, I hope to bring about a sense of theatrical engagement within the subjects and their situation.
